A day out at Peasholm Park

Peasholm Park is one of Scarborough's main attrractions. A tranquil lake, a tree trail, a bandstand, the naval warfare battle, home to the Open Air Theatre, there is always something to do or see there.

If you fancy hiring a boat for the lake you can choose from a traditional rowing boat, a canoe, or almost everyone's favourite, a pedalo with a dragon's head.  Alternatively, take the less energetic option and fo for a sail on the Swan Launch.

Take a wander down to the bandstand and have a listen to the music which is on most afternoons.

For anyone even remotely interested in nature, a walk through the Tree Trail is a must where you can have a look at some great specimens of local and in some cases very rare trees.

A list of events for 2011 is here.

Enjoy your day or even days out here.  It's a firm favourite with locals as well as visitors due to the vast number of things to see.

A British Holiday By The Sea

So what do you do if you're holidaying in Scarborough?

Well, to be honest there is so much going on in Scarborough it's hard to know where to start.
The obvious answer is The Beach.  Scarborough has two beaches:  North Bay and South Bay.
The South Bay is on the front and what many would consider to be Scarborough Beach.  Plenty of sand, close to the countless kiosks and cafes selling food, drinks and ice creams.  Cross the road and you can spend hours in the arcades shoving 2ps (or more) into machines in the vain hope you may actually come out with more money than you started with.  Although you won't get your money back there are plenty of toys to get out of the machines.  They will be the most expensive "cheap" toys you'll ever go home with but it passes a bit of time, particularly if the weather isn't too good.

The North Bay beach on the other hand is quieter and very few things to spend your hard earned cash on - so less pester power for the ice creams, hot dogs, chips and sweets.

North Bay is where you'll find the Sealife Centre (if you're lucky you may even find some vouchers in the local press for discount entries) and it's only a short walk from there to Peasholm Park.  The park is free to enter and usually has plenty to look at and ducks to feed.

Improving Bathing Water at Scarborough

Today, it has beeen announced that up to £10 million will be invested over the next five years in order to improve the quality of the bathing water at Scarborough beaches.

This is due to the European Water Quality Directive due to come into effect in 2015.

The UK target is for all beaches to be graded as "sufficient".  Scarborough Borough Council and Yorkshire Water are aiming for the North and South Bay beaches to achieve the status if "excellent".  Funding will be

Good news indeed for Scarborough residents and holidaymakers.  Let's hope it goes ahead and we get the clean bathing water we deserve in this area.

We already have Blue Flags along this coastline following campaigns from surfers so it's good to see that these high standards will be maintained and even improved upon.

Peasholm Park Battleships

I'm just watching tonights episode of The Royal.  Part of the episode is a story based around the Naval Warfare at Peasholm Park in Scarborough.  Although there is something there for dramatic effect, it's still something worth a visit if you're ever in Scarborough.  The Naval Battle at Peasholm Park.

If you need somewhere to stay in Scarborough, have a look at this wonderful holiday cottage Scarborough Fair Holiday Let .
