Today, it has beeen announced that up to £10 million will be invested over the next five years in order to improve the quality of the bathing water at Scarborough beaches.
This is due to the European Water Quality Directive due to come into effect in 2015.
The UK target is for all beaches to be graded as "sufficient". Scarborough Borough Council and Yorkshire Water are aiming for the North and South Bay beaches to achieve the status if "excellent". Funding will be
Good news indeed for Scarborough residents and holidaymakers. Let's hope it goes ahead and we get the clean bathing water we deserve in this area.
We already have Blue Flags along this coastline following campaigns from surfers so it's good to see that these high standards will be maintained and even improved upon.
